FFA Updates and Reminders


CDE’s (Career Development Events):

Practices for CDE teams are going on now! Here is a list of the teams our chapter has:

  • Livestock Judging
  • Horse Judging
  • Wildlife
  • Floriculture
  • Vet Science
  • Farm Business Management 

    Just like with any other competition students do have to be passing all classes to be eligible to compete at CDE contests. The grade period that affects eligibility for CDE contests is the 3rd 9 weeks, which ends March 9th.

    Below is a list of contests we will be attending. Students will be missing school on these days.

  • March 22nd- Tarleton Invitational CDE Contest
  • April 4th- Heart of Texas CDE Contest
  • April 5th- Parker County CDE Contest
  • April 9th- Region 5 Wildlife Contest
  • April 17th- TAMUC- Area 5 CDE Contest (Floriculture, Vet Science, Farm Business Management, Livestock Judging)
  • April 18th- Tarleton Area CDE Contest ( Horse Judging only)


GCFFA Officer Elections for the 2018-2019 School Year:

The time is coming to elect the officer team for the 2018-2019 school year. Students who plan to run for an officer position please read the below information very carefully to make sure you do not miss anything. 


Officer Application Process

  1. Potential Officer Candidate Meeting: Tuesday, March 27th at 4 p.m. in Mr. McGrew’s room.
    1. Will be discussing FFA Chapter Officer requirements and expectations.
    2. Will go over Officer application process and important dates.
    3. This meeting is MANDATORY for any student who plant to run for an officer position. Failure to show up to this meeting will result in the student not being eligible to run for office.
  2. Application: Due Monday, April 9th by 4 p.m.
    1. Typed application
    2. One page resume
    3. Signed FFA Chapter Officer Code of Ethics
  3. Speech: FFA Meeting, Tuesday, April 10th
    1. Each candidate must prepare a 2 minute long, memorized, speech about their experiences and qualifications to serve on the GCFFA Officer Team.
    2. Speech will be given in front of fellow FFA members at the April FFA meeting.
    3. Must wear official dress
  4. Interview: Week of April 23rd-27th
    1. Each student will be interviewed by a panel and scored based on their interview skills and how well they answer questions.
    2. Must wear official dress
  5. Positions will be announced to officer candidates by Friday, April 27th.
  6. New officers will be instated at the FFA banquet on Friday, May 4th.

    Skipping any of the above events will void your application.


Speaking Development Events

Any student who is interested in doing a speaking development event visit the link below to read up on the options for speaking contests.

District Speaking Development Events will take place on Thursday April 19th (after school).


FFA Degree Applications (High School Members)

There are several degrees of membership within FFA that students can apply for. Please visit the following link for more information on the specific degrees of membership.

To apply for the degrees students must keep a record book in AET. Mrs. B will be available Monday’s after school from 4-5 p.m. after spring break for students to come in and work on their record books and applications.


Senior Scholarship Applications

Seniors Scholarship Applications will be ready for pick-up Tuesday, March 6th from Mrs. B. Scholarship applications are due back by April 19th. Scholarship winners will be announced at the FFA Banquet on May 4th.


FFA Banquet

 When: Friday, May 4th

Time: 6:30 p.m.

Where: Compass Center

Tickets for this years FFA banquet are going to be $20 and will go on sale at the April FFA meeting. We highly encourage ALL junior and senior FFA members to attend banquet. More information about banquet will be discussed at the April FFA meeting but please mark your calendars!
